At some point crafters will want to begin making patterns themselves, either for personal use or to offer custom projects to those around them.
Making leather patterns does take a bit of time, but is not difficult. A great deal can be done with a few basic tools, which may vary a bit depending on the type of item you are making. To begin, we recommend:
- triangle templates (30, 45, 60, and 90 degree angles)
- a straight edge at least 12 inches long
- circle templates up to about 6 inch size
- ellipse templates and/or french curves
Additionally, a sliding T-bevel and graph paper are helpful.
Information provided in this section is intended to be freely shared and available to everyone. If you prefer to purchase patterns ready to use, some leather patterns are available in our Etsy supply store.
