At some point crafters will want to design their own leather pattern, either for personal use or to offer custom projects to those around them.
Making leather patterns does take a bit of time, but is not difficult. A great deal can be done with a few basic tools, which may vary a bit depending on the type of item for which you make patterns. Bare minimum, I recommend:
- triangle templates (30, 45, 60, and 90 degree angles)
- a straight edge at least 12 inches long
- circle templates up to about 6 inch size
- ellipse templates and/or french curves
